How to Prepare for Your Makeup Appointment: Your Complete Guide
So you booked your glam—now what?
Whether you’re getting ready for a birthday, wedding, photoshoot, special event, or simply want to feel extra beautiful, a little preparation can make a big difference in how your makeup looks and lasts.
At Jazspired Makeup Bar, I want every client to feel comfortable, confident, and ready to enjoy their glam experience. Here are my top tips for preparing for your makeup appointment.
1. Arrive With a Clean Face
Please arrive with your face clean and free of makeup, foundation, heavy creams, or oils.
A clean canvas allows your makeup artist to properly prep your skin and helps your makeup sit beautifully throughout the day.
If you have a skincare routine, keep it simple before your appointment. Avoid trying new products right before your glam—your skin doesn’t need any surprises on makeup day!
2. Moisturize—But Don’t Overdo It
Healthy, hydrated skin is a beautiful foundation for makeup.
Use a moisturizer that works well for your skin, but avoid applying heavy oils or thick products immediately before your appointment. Too much product can affect how foundation and other makeup products adhere to your skin.
3. Come With Your Brows Ready
If you like your brows waxed, threaded, or shaped, try to have them done at least 24–48 hours before your appointment.
Freshly waxed or irritated skin can be more sensitive, and applying makeup immediately afterward may cause discomfort or irritation.
4. Avoid Heavy Exfoliation Before Your Appointment
Don’t go into your appointment with freshly scrubbed or irritated skin.
Avoid aggressive exfoliating treatments, peels, or new skincare products right before your makeup appointment. Your skin will thank you—and your makeup will have a smoother canvas to work with.
5. Bring Inspiration Photos
Have a look in mind? Bring your inspiration photos!
Pictures help me understand the overall vibe you’re going for, whether it’s soft glam, full glam, natural beauty, or something more dramatic.
Keep in mind that makeup is customized to your features, skin, and personal style, so your final look may not be an exact copy of the photo—and that’s a good thing!
6. Wear the Right Outfit
If possible, wear something that is easy to change out of without disturbing your makeup.
A robe, button-down shirt, or wide-neck top can make getting dressed afterward much easier.
And if you’re taking photos after your appointment, consider your outfit and accessories when choosing your makeup look. Everything should work together.
7. Give Yourself Enough Time
Please plan your schedule so you’re not rushing immediately after your appointment.
Professional makeup takes time, especially when we’re creating a detailed glam look. Giving yourself extra time allows you to relax and enjoy the experience instead of watching the clock.
8. Come Ready to Relax
This is your time!
Sit back, relax, listen to some music, catch up on your favorite show, or simply enjoy being pampered while I work my magic.
My goal isn’t just for you to leave looking beautiful—I want you to feel beautiful, too.
